Some of the species have stridulating organs. The larvae of the Lucanida? resemble closely those of the Scaraba3ida3 ; they live in decaying wood, on the juices of which the images also feed. In Lucanus the menturn is entire, and covers the ligula and maxillag, the antennas are geniculate, the eyes emarginate, the anterior tibia3 toothed on the outer edge.
